I feel I am a part of the alternative/metal community, although not very much outwardly just in my music taste. If I had more confidence I'd probably dress more 'alternative' but never have the confidence to try a different style and just sorta stick to what I'm comfortable with! I got into pop punk when I was a teen and I think like a lot of people it was music that got me through a lot of low points at that point in my life - through the power of youtube suggesting songs I got into rock and metal too (theres probably a lot of other sub-genres also). Going to gigs is definitely a time where I feel most free and safe (although not at the moment, damn you covid). The music I listen to has definitely formed a big part of who I am today and it's still something I know I can rely on when things get tough. It might be a phrase sometimes overused and not really meant, but music did save my life when I was a teenager. And still helps me now when life gets tough, especially recently! I think the communities we're a part of help make our identities - probably in different ways for different people, and they definitely help us feel less alone/more supported in life. I don't really express being a part of the alt/metal community, nor do I hide it. I'll wear band merch out and about (and blasting music in my bedroom and car). If it comes up in conversation I love talking about music and bands annd so on... especially if I meet someone with similar taste. But I'm quite happy just plodding along minding my own business and remaining pretty invisible to the world.
Favourite lyric/song/album is a super difficult one! It changes depending on whats going on in life I guess! A favourite lyric is "One day I won't take this anymore" from Simple Plans 'One Day' - This lyric was my first tattoo and listening to Simple Plan was the start of my jump into the pop punk scene etc...
Favourite albums;
Sex, Death and the Infinite Void by Creeper. (Hiighly recommend if you haven't already heard!), Transmissions by Starset! and Got Your Six by Five Finger Death Punch! (I could list so many albums but I'll stop here aha)
