Communities: Alternative, Gaming

 - Music drew me to the alternative community as many of the lyrics resonated with me due to mental health struggles and problems in my personal life that were hard to deal with when I was in my early teens. I also found that people within this community were generally very open and understanding, so it became a safe space for me, and from there my dress/makeup style changed and adapted to what it is today. I openly express my involvement in this community through everything in my life, from my room decor to my dress. - As with the appeal of the alternative community, gaming allowed me to escape my personal life and forget the negativity around me for a while. I was also introduced to gaming by my brother when I was very young with games like Spyro and I feel as though it made us closer, again becoming a safe space. I express my love for gaming only with my friends on discord and rarely openly as many people don't take me seriously as I am a woman and it's easier to just stick to friends than explain that I am a "real gamer".  - I do believe our communities help us make our identities as they allow us to explore and grow ourselves.
