PROJECT BRIEF

Hello there, I’m Gee, a 22 year old fine art student originally from Birmingham. Identity is something that interests me because everyone is so unique and there are so many different aspects that make up identities. For example, personality and appearance are two of the biggest things that make up an identity but they can be completely different. Gender, Ethnicity, Hobbies, Religion, Political Beliefs, Where and how they were brought up, Family etc are all examples of things that make up an identity and are avenues for me to explore and draw inspiration from.

I would like to explore what makes people up and what is the strongest thing that stands out about them. I am a huge music lover, it makes up a big part of my life and especially on how I look and who I look up to. Someone else might be a huge sports fan, a traveller, focused on their career etc. The beauty of it is that everyone is different.

This year we are focusing on experimentation. What I hope to achieve is a project that shows clear development through research, planning and plenty of experimentation using different mediums. I am going to make exhibition pieces, sketchbooks with my ideas, experimentation and planning, socially distant gallery visits and various powerpoints and documents to help support and explain my ideas when I present in Critique. Inspiration will come from researching artists, mind maps, social media and other people on my course.

I am hoping to explore some mediums further such as digital editing, colour pencil, painting, different kinds of paper and wood etc. I would like to further explore things I tried before in workshops or school such as printing, spray paint, collaging with mixed media.

One of the issues I will face will be COVID-19 restrictions. Due to this, a lot of my project will be conducted in a socially distant manner if I do anything in person. I am thinking about exploring how the internet can be extremely helpful in times like this, I am hoping to collaborate more with people who I wouldn’t normally work with. Things like zoom, twitter, instagram are really helpful to reach out to people and I plan on using these to help further my project.
